Twenty-six members of the Arthroplasty team partnered with the Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve to perform a volunteer beach cleanup on Keewaydin Island after the busy Memorial Day holiday. Many visitors spend the long weekend on the island, and the team thought this would be the perfect opportunity to use Arthrex’s company-provided Volunteer PTO Day to help the Rookery Bay team clean the beach.
Senior Product Improvement Engineer Joel Zubizarreta, who organized the event, explained it is easy for people who live in Southwest Florida year-round to forget about the natural beauty that surrounds us.
“Participating in this event helps us remember how fortunate we are to live here and the importance of making sure we preserve it for future generations,” he said.
Product Management Intern Mateo Golloshi genuinely enjoyed his time volunteering.
“It was truly a fun time to be able to get closer with the Arthroplasty team members while at the same time giving back to the community,” he said. “I think it really speaks to the culture that surrounds Arthrex and it's truly a great feeling knowing that I am part of an organization that encourages volunteer work.”
The Rookery Bay team was appreciative of the volunteers' help and impressed that Arthrex offered this generous benefit to the community.
Product Management Intern Christine Lam reflected on her experience volunteering, saying while one person can make a difference in the community, working as a team made it even better.
“A simple act, such as picking up a piece of trash or being mindful with your surroundings, can make a significant impact,” she said.
This volunteer event perfectly exemplifies how Arthrex employees value making their community better while working as a team.
