Arthrex Anderson Institute of Technology Partner to Develop Future Manufacturing Employees

Arthrex, Inc.

Arthrex is partnering with the Anderson Institute of Technology (AIT), a technical center serving Anderson County School Districts Three, Four and Five, to develop manufacturing employees with the skills necessary to help surgeons treat their patients better. AIT offers students dual credit opportunities and industry certifications that prepare them with a foundation to enter the workforce and be successful after high school graduation.

Arthrex is pleased to partner with AIT and build upon the outstanding educational experiences this organization provides its students, said Arthrex Vice President of Manufacturing Andy Owen. We look forward to preparing future employees for high-tech manufacturing jobs and sharing more about how the work we do is making a difference in people's lives.

AIT hosted an event on Thursday, October 13, to announce the partnership and unveil Arthrex signage prominently displayed in the school's lobby. AIT Executive Director Dr. James Couch, the superintendents from Districts Three, Four and Five, and Arthrex Senior Manager of Human Resources Melanie McLane spoke to community leaders and media attending the event.

We are honored to recognize Arthrex for their unwavering commitment to provide students with excellent educational equipment and the opportunity for real world experiences, said Dr. Couch.

Partnerships work and they make our community better, added Anderson District Superintendent Five Thomas Wilson. Arthrex is committed to making the world better by creating technology that will help patients.

It's exciting that the students who are educated in this building have a chance to be a part of that.

Under the partnership, Arthrex:

  • Provides funding for equipment and resources for the purpose of workforce training in Advanced Manufacturing and Biomedical Technology.
  • Serves in an advisory capacity on AIT's Executive Council, providing guidance on the technical and soft skills needed for successful employment.
  • Participates in AIT's Career Showcase and provides employees to meet with AIT students, exposing them to career opportunities available at Arthrex.
  • Provides work experience opportunities through the Arthrex Apprentice Program, which allows students enrolled in the AIT Machine Tool Program to apply for a paid apprenticeship while earning high school credit.

The programs and support of institutions like AIT were integral to Arthrex's decision to expand in South Carolina, said Melanie. The ability to leverage the work being done here to support our business needs is fantastic. At Arthrex, we are committed to making people's lives better. It is truly meaningful work. We are excited to share this with the students at AIT and grow our investment in Anderson County.

Following the event, Arthrex team members got to see the Haas ST 10 lathe the company donated in an AIT classroom. The students in Machine Tool Technical Instructor James Fowler's growing class will perform simulations on the machine that will result in their being proficient CNC operators by the time of graduation.

This has been a phenomenal addition to our classroom, said James, adding several of his students hope to be among the first Arthrex Apprentice Program students. This machine is seen a lot in the manufacturing industry and, by the time they leave this class, they will have completed Haas operator training.
