5 Questions with Arthrex Mexico's Jorge Ruiz

The next edition of our 5 Questions series features Arthrex Mexico’s Instruments Warehouse Clerk Jorge Ruiz. In his role, Jorge is responsible for cleaning, maintaining and delivering surgical instruments to hospitals and surgical centers around Mexico City.

Jorge has been with Arthrex Mexico for almost seven years, and he couldn’t pick a favorite Arthrex product because he likes them all.

“All Arthrex instruments are my favorite. To me, they all have something special about them because they are the backbone of all procedures performed with Arthrex products,” he said.

How do you impact our mission of Helping Surgeons Treat Their Patients Better™ in your role?

My role impacts Arthrex’s mission by making sure our surgeon customers have everything they need from Arthrex for a successful procedure. To do this, I make sure surgical instruments are ready and in good condition so that no problems arise during the surgery that may affect the patient or the surgical outcome.

I am responsible for making sure the instruments are checked for flaws or defects before bringing them to the operating room, that all instruments have been properly cleaned and that we are bringing all the necessary instruments the surgeon may need. It is important to ensure that each Arthrex component used in the operating room is in the best possible condition for patients and surgeons. If this isn’t done, we risk the surgeon being unhappy and no longer scheduling surgeries with us.

What inspires you the most at Arthrex?

I am inspired by knowing that we serve and help so many people with our products. We are one of the best companies in the industry and everyone is dedicated to training and expanding their knowledge to meet the needs of surgeons and patients.

It also inspires me to know that we are a family-oriented company with colleagues who are dedicated and always willing to help with anything that’s needed.

What is your favorite Arthrex success story?

My favorite Arthrex success story is one President and Founder Reinhold Schmieding told us during the Arthrex Mexico 20th Anniversary events. He has never let anything stop him from achieving global success for Arthrex. He told us a story about when he had just started Arthrex there was very little technology compared to today’s standards and one day he was running late to a surgery because of traffic. He stopped at a pay phone to let the team know he was running late. Today, technology has evolved so much that everyone has pocket-sized computers with phone capabilities, and we have the ability to use augmented reality during surgery. Arthrex’s growth is absolutely amazing!

How would you describe the Arthrex culture?

Arthrex’s culture facilitates a positive and harmonious workplace that helps surgeons treat their patients better. I also think our culture does a good job of fostering bonding among employees through team building activities and events like family day.

Our core value is Making People Better. How has Arthrex made you better?

Arthrex has made me better by allowing me to feel secure and confident in my role. I take pride in knowing the efforts I make for Arthrex are recognized and often rewarded. Because of this, I know I have grown in my job and expanded my skills. I have been promoted in the operations area and I always strive to keep growing within the company.
