Arthrex Vet Systems Shares Mission, Vision with Naples Zoo

President and Founder Reinhold Schmieding and members of the Arthrex Vet Systems team made a house call to the Naples Zoo last month to share how Arthrex Vet Systems products are Helping Veterinarians Treat Their Patients Better™.

Reinhold, Orthobiologics and Vet Systems Senior Director David Shepard and Group Product Manager Robert Benedict were invited for a private tour from President and CEO Jack Mulvena and Staff Veterinarian Kelsie Stovall, DVM.

Following the tour, David gave the Naples Zoo group a presentation on the history and focus of the Arthrex Vet Systems division, which began in 2004 with the release of the IRAP™ system, which treats mild to moderate osteoarthritis in animals.

But while Vet Systems has historically focused on innovations for companion animals like dogs and cats, the technology is used in other animals as well, including a ring-tailed lemur, an American red wolf and an endangered snow leopard. The Naples Zoo has similar animals, including lemurs and clouded leopards, on display.

“Our vision is to be the most innovative source in veterinary surgical products,” said David.

David also highlighted Arthrex’s robust Medical Education program, which educates more than 1,000 veterinary surgeons annually, and Arthrex’s dedication to research, highlighting that of the more than 250 biomechanical and clinical research initiatives, 13 percent of which are dedicated to Vet Systems products.

“We want to position Arthrex to become the trusted source of veterinary surgery education,” David said. “This includes hosting the first Women in Veterinary Orthopedics Conference, developing relationships with universities to provide focused education on residents, among others.

Following the tour and presentation, the team invited Dr. Stovall to the Women in Veterinary Orthopedics course. She went and wrote David thanking the team for the experience.

“I learned so much in just two days, and I am looking forward to continuing to explore Arthrex products and courses to provide even better care for our Zoo collection,” she said.
