ALC Receiving Inspection Department Uses Volunteer PTO Day to Help Restore Wildlife Sanctuary on Sanibel Island

Arthrex Logistics Center (ALC) Receiving Inspection Department team members recently spent their Volunteer PTO time aiding with hurricane cleanup at the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW).

CROW is a wildlife hospital and visitor education center, caring for more than 6,000 wildlife patients each year. CROW’s 12.5-acre campus, which encompasses a 4,800-square-foot hospital and more than 10 rehabilitation enclosures, is located in the heart of Sanibel Island.

Since Hurricane Ian devastated the island in September 2022, CROW has been operating out of temporary facilities, such as other non-profits like the Animal Refuge Center in North Fort Myers. CROW reopened on March 16, but there is still work to be done to restore the grounds and outdoor enclosures.

“My team was looking for an opportunity to help our local community and also offset the effects of Ian,” said Quality Control Supervisor Kevin Dowds.

Dividing into two groups over the course of two days, 12 members of the Quality Control team worked to restore hundreds of pounds of sand to outdoor animal enclosures and helped with weeding and other cleanup activities.

“It was hard work,” Senior Quality Control Inspector Basil Spaulding said, “but we had a great time banding together with co-workers to make a difference.”

Arthrex’s Volunteer PTO benefit allows employees eight hours of paid time off each year in order to give back to their community. Look for more stories of Arthrex employees using their Volunteer PTO benefit on Arthrex LinkedInFacebookInstagram and Twitter pages.
