Senior Product Development Engineer I Alex Delmonaco, who also leads the Young Professionals Network at Arthrex’s office in Waltham, Massachusetts (a suburb outside of Boston), gathered a group of eight team members from various departments (Engineering, Information Technology, Marketing, Software Development and Digital Asset Management) to utilize their Volunteer Paid Time Off (PTO) as a group, building homes with Habitat for Humanity.
The team’s efforts were put toward adding rafters and joists to buildings, framing walls and even lifting a wall to establish a second story. Salesforce Administrator II Rachel Felten said the team had the opportunity to build the homes alongside the future homeowners, making the experience much more meaningful getting to see who will be directly impacted by their efforts.
Rachel added that the event was pushed back three times due to weather, but the team was undeterred and volunteered on a perfect day filled with challenging, but engaging tasks.
“Volunteer Day made me realize that we can contribute to society in other ways, besides just our main job responsibilities,” said Senior Product Development Engineer I Manish Thapa. “It was a wonderful team building exercise for the entire Arthrex Boston team, as we got to all work together on one project in a setting not possible in the office.”
In addition to the physical labor provided by the Young Professionals Network, Arthrex also made a corporate donation of $2,500 to supplement construction materials, professional labor, and support of continued building in the Greater Boston Community.
While Arthrex’s mission is Helping Surgeons Treat Their Patients Better®, the company does a great deal to make people better, and volunteering in the community is just one way to do that, Alex said.
Arthrex’s Volunteer PTO benefit allows employees eight hours of paid time off each year in order to give back to their community.
