Arthrex Collaborates with FGCU to Drive Economic Growth, Protect Environment

Arthrex is looking forward to expanding its collaboration with Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) to focus on workforce development and environmental sustainability.

While traveling in Europe this summer, FGCU President Aysegul Timur, PhD, accepted an invitation from Arthrex President and Founder Reinhold Schmieding to visit Arthrex’s EMEA headquarters in Munich, Germany. The two discussed their shared passion for developing the local workforce in Southwest Florida and for environmental sustainability.

From career day events to internships to partnering on a medical device course or hosting PA students in our lab, Arthrex has long partnered with FGCU to recruit and develop talent. The goal is to expose students to the myriad of career opportunities Arthrex offers right in their backyard.

“We want to continue to attract people to this area, creating jobs and keeping exceptional talent here,” Dr. Timur said.

In addition, Arthrex and FGCU are in the early stages of looking at opportunities to partner on research into water quality issues like red tide and blue green algae. Dr. Timur invited Reinhold to tour FGCU’s Water School, which is a unique program in Southwest Florida that is a living laboratory focused on climate change, natural resources and the health of the ecosystem.

“The water quality in Southwest Florida is a key engine of economic growth for the region,” Dr. Timur said.

Arthrex, which has called Southwest Florida home for more than 30 years, is committed to environmentally friendly business practices. The Naples campus was designated a Certified Wildlife Habitat through the National Wildlife Federation and its Florida Wildlife Federation affiliate. The honor recognizes Arthrex for its commitment to sustainably providing the essential elements of wildlife habitat.
