High school students from Grace Place for Children and Families were invited to the Arthrex global headquarters in Naples, Florida to explore careers in the medical device industry. The group, which included students from Lorenzo Walker Technical College and Golden Gate High School, had toured the manufacturing floor at Arthrex Manufacturing Inc. East (AMIE) in Ave Maria, Florida back in February.
According to Family Office Corporate Giving and Operations Manager Suzanne Pahl-Boland, Grace Place has partnered with Arthrex since 2008. The organization works with Arthrex to educate local children and their families to provide them with pathways out of poverty.
“Grace Place is an integral part of the Golden Gate City community and is a long-standing nonprofit partner for Arthrex,” she said.
During the visit, Corporate Engagement Supervisor Meg Hardt and Corporate Engagement Specialist Lisa Halpin led the students on a tour through various areas of the Naples campus, including Medical Education, the Product Showcase and Studio X. Meg also introduced the students to the many exciting internship program opportunities and answered all of their career questions.
The students had the opportunity to talk with Product Improvement Quality Engineering Supervisor Dallas Clarke about Arthrex’s latest innovations. Dallas, who also serves as the Vice President on the Board of Ambassadors for Grace Place, offered hands-on demonstrations of different product uses and medical scenarios.
“It's rewarding to be able to inspire the next generation of innovators and display how Arthrex makes an impact for our patients and surgeons worldwide,” Dallas said.
Grace Place High School Program Assistant Sarai Magana-Jimenez expressed appreciation to Arthrex for giving students the opportunity to explore their interests in the medical industry further.
“We hope that the students are impacted by this experience and are motivated by seeing careers and opportunities they wouldn’t have believed they could get into before,” she said.
Currently, Arthrex Charitable Giving supports the organization’s Bright Beginnings family literacy programs, which target under-served children up to five years old who are living in homes where English is not the primary spoken language. Arthrex employees also volunteer their time with Grace Place to help with mentoring, educational courses, food pantries and more.
