Arthrex Marks Manufacturing Milestone with Launch of X ray Sterilization and New Facility Construction

Arthrex is advancing its vertically integrated manufacturing strategy with two major developments in sterilization operations: the first salable products processed at its new X-ray sterilization facility and the construction of an additional radiation‑based sterilization building to support future growth.

The company recently completed its first salable sterilization runs at the newly constructed Arthrex Manufacturing Inc. X-ray (AMIX) facility, located on the Arthrex Manufacturing Inc. South Carolina (AMISC) campus. This milestone marks the introduction of in‑house X‑ray sterilization for a growing number of products, helping improve efficiency, increase capacity and strengthen overall quality control. The facility features advanced technology designed to support both X‑ray and electron beam sterilization as Arthrex continues expanding its capabilities.

“This achievement marks the beginning of a new era for Arthrex,” said Zach Dukerich, Arthrex Manufacturing Sterilization Engineering Senior Manager. “Our priority is transitioning products to X-ray processing and continuing to expand our capabilities to support future growth.”

The first approved product processed through AMIX was the Arthrex 2.4 mm x 11.3 mm PEEK PushLock® anchor—an important step toward scaling X‑ray sterilization for additional product families. Arthrex now has FDA clearance for multiple products using this sterilization method, with more submissions underway.

To further support demand and ensure long‑term capacity for radiation‑based sterilization methods, Arthrex has also broken ground on a new sterilization facility on the AMISC campus. The building will complement existing operations and expand the company’s ability to process devices that require specific radiation modalities based on their design or material characteristics.

“Different device materials respond uniquely to various forms of radiation,” said Tim Thompson, Senior Director of Operations. “By expanding our sterilization footprint, we can better match each product with the most appropriate sterilization method while supporting the pace of Arthrex’s global growth.”

With the addition of AMIX and construction of a new radiation sterilization facility, Arthrex continues to strengthen its manufacturing infrastructure—enhancing control over product quality, supporting faster speed to market and reinforcing its mission of Helping Surgeons Teat Their Patients Better®.
