Arthrex Family Day is an annual event hosted by Arthrex Mexico to show appreciation for its employees and their families. In the past, the event has centered around food, fun and games, but this year, the team elected to pair the camaraderie of Family Day with Arthrex Involve and the opportunity to give back to the local region.
Arthrex Involve aims to initiate a culture of social responsibility among employees, encouraging the display of integrity, trust, courage and humility while supporting the community through partnerships with non-profit and environmental organizations.
After seeking input from employees regarding which volunteer activities they were most interested in and which associations they were most compelled to work with, the team selected the project suggested by Senior Clinical Specialist Luis Espinoza – to assist with the reforestation project occurring in the Sierra de Guadalupe State Park, where wildfires had destroyed many of the trees in the area.
Arthrex Mexico brought together approximately 30 employees and nearly 40 of their family members to travel the 90 minutes to the park where they had breakfast and a little playtime before setting out to plant kidneywood (palo dulce) and yellow elder (tronadora) trees.
“We worked with the Sierra de Guadalupe Comprehensive Environmental Education Center on this reforestation project, and those trees were chosen because they are most fit to survive the current climate conditions of the region,” said Arthrex Mexico Senior Meeting and Events Specialist Hassan Manzur, who coordinated with HR Business Partner Daniela Lobato and the rest of the Mexico Human Resources team to organize the event.
In total, the group planted approximately 300 trees.
“We had children and grandmothers and grandfathers who all contributed to this beautiful project,” said Arthrex Mexico Human Resources Manager Tania Flores. “Combining these two activities allowed us to enjoy some valuable team building while furthering Arthrex Involve’s goal of creating a healthy society and environment for our employees, our loved ones and for future generations.”
When the planting was complete, the group returned to play a bit more and enjoy another meal together.
“The Family Day and Arthrex Involve project was a unique experience,” said Medical Education Operations Administrator Emmanuel Ortega. “The coexistence of co-workers, family, team building and tree planting was the perfect combination of human kindness.”
