CBS Affiliate WINK News Spotlights Local Athlete’s Story With Arthrex’s InternalBrace™ Technique

Arthrex recently announced new research that shows its cutting-edge ACL reconstruction (ACLR) using the InternalBrace™ technique offers an effective solution to combat reinjury in young athletes.

This innovative procedure was featured in a story on Southwest Florida CBS affiliate WINK News, which highlighted local high school basketball player Sonia Kiritsa, who tore her ACL during a game. Sonia underwent surgery to reconstruct her ACL using a quadriceps tendon graft, reinforced with the InternalBrace technique to provide added stability and support during healing.

Patrick A. Smith, MD (Naples, Florida), a specialist in adolescent ACLR and repair, performed the procedure. Smith recently became a full-time physician in Naples after a storied career practicing in Columbia, Missouri and serving as Head Team Physician for the University of Missouri. His expertise, combined with this advanced approach, is helping young athletes return to their sport with greater confidence and a lower risk of reinjury.

“We call it the seat belt for the ACL,” Smith told WINK News. “We’ve seen less retears, which is huge for our patients to get back to sport more confidently.”’
