East Tennessee’s First Endoscopic Spine Procedure Completed With Arthrex Technology

Benjamin Weisenthal, MD, recently performed the first ultra-minimally invasive endoscopic spine surgery at Knoxville Orthopaedic Clinic in Tennessee.

Dr. Weisenthal completed an immersive course with Arthrex and Vanderbilt University Medical Center to learn and master the technique, which treats herniated discs, spinal stenosis and spinal fusion.

“A traditional discectomy can require an incision of two to four centimeters, but using an endoscope and tiny camera, I can reduce that to one centimeter or about the size of your finger,” Weisenthal said. “Decreasing the size of the incision means lower risk of muscle trauma or scar tissue formation and can result in less discomfort and a faster recovery.”
