Arthrex Manufacturing Inc. (AMI) Human Resources Director Melanie McLane was recently appointed to the Tri-County Technical College (TCTC) Commission, serving on the Curriculum and Instruction Committee.
Established in 1962, TCTC serves Anderson, Oconee and Pickens (AOP) counties and boasts partnerships with Clemson University as well as strong relationships with high schools in the area through dual-enrollment programs.
Melanie described Tri-County as a liaison for the community, not only because of its educational affiliations but also because of the workforce the college supplies to the area.
“I have lived and worked in the AOP area my entire life,” she said, “and I think it’s important to do what you can to help strengthen your local community.”
Melanie graduated from Clemson University before earning a Master of Business Administration from the University of South Carolina. In addition to her position on the TCTC Commission, she also serves on the board of the Anderson Area Business and Education Alliance, which brings industries and businesses together with educational institutions to ensure course offerings are in line with local business needs, and the WorkLink Workforce Development Board, which ensures funding for workforce development is being allocated appropriately to upskill individuals for employability.
Melanie also played a pivotal role in establishing the S.C. Upstate Regional Youth Apprenticeship with Tri-County Technical College, which aids in connecting students with Upstate employers, including Arthrex.
“I believe if you want your community to have top talent, you have to help influence the workforce’s education,” she said. “Workforce development is vital to Arthrex’s manufacturing operations; it’s how we as a company will remain competitive.”
Governor Henry McMaster made the appointment, and Melanie’s three-year term officially began on Monday, June 3.
