Arthrex Provides Support to Veterinarian Through Education on Innovative Procedures to Help Local Shelter Dogs

When John Morton, DVM (Naples, FL), Chief Medical Officer for the Patty Baker Humane Society Naples, expressed interest in fracture and Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) training, Arthrex Vet Systems' product management team was proud to support furthering his veterinary education.

“There is a huge need for TPLO surgeries, not only for our shelter dogs, but for those out in the community,” said Dr. Morton. “Traditionally, this is an expensive surgery typically performed by specialists. Though these types of procedures are considered elective, not performing surgery has consequences, such as chronic pain and progressive arthritis,” said Dr. Morton.

Arthrex Vet Systems partners with the Translational Medicine Institute (TMI) at Colorado State University for medical education. The team at TMI generously stepped in to assist with surgical skills training for residents at the Patty Baker Humane Society Naples.

“When Arthrex, Patty Baker Humane Society Naples and TMI came together, it really created a fantastic opportunity to better serve our local community,” said Dr Morton. “Through this collaboration, we're hoping to provide gold-standard care at a more attainable price point, allowing animals to live the pain-free lives they deserve.”

Dr. Morton added that while Arthrex global headquarters is local to the Patty Baker Humane Society Naples, TMI at Colorado State is located across the country in Fort Collins, CO.

“Their willingness to invest in us is truly remarkable. The Arthrex and TMI teams are truly incredible and it was such a pleasure to work with them again,” said Dr. Morton. “I hope to continue and grow this relationship in the future."
